Cancun is for Lovers

I had twelve days off of work and it, somehow, went by in what felt like one long weekend. I'm not sure how we've already been to Cancun and back AND had Thanksgiving weekend with family, but we did. It feels like a dream; an expensive dream that was worth every penny.

Anthony & I have been married for 6 1/2 years and, in that time, the only vacation we've taken that lasted longer than a 2-3 day weekend was our honeymoon in Chicago. Since that time, we have only ever been on "vacation" with our family while we sleep in separate beds or with youth groupers during mission trips/retreats while we sleep in separate rooms. All of our vacations are fun, but usually pretty exhausting and we are left feeling like we hardly got to see each other or had a minute to connect.

These past 2 years or so, in particular, just really got away from us. Being in ministry is extremely rewarding but can be very overwhelming when you haven't quite mastered the art of creating healthy boundaries between church family and family-family. God allowed us to really be tested the past few years in many different ways (health, finances, work) and I'm proud to say that we have come out on the other end 100x stronger. But, the strength of our relationship and commitment to one another doesn't magically erase the effects of a season of weariness. So, we decided about a year ago that we really needed a lengthy, relaxing vacation together where we could connect, re-prioritize, rest, and just be away from all the "stuff" in our lives that pull us away from God and one another.

We spent seven nights at an all-inclusive resort in Cancun where we literally did a whole lot of nothing and anything we wanted all at once. We ate (a lot), we drank, we slept-in, we laid out beside and swam in the Gulf of Mexico every single day, we got a couple's massage on the beach, we went snorkeling (which I really wanted to share pictures of, but our GoPro battery died by the time the boat-ride getting there was over), we saw a Michael Jackson impersonator (yeah, that really happened), we watched MSU destroy Ohio State, we applied and re-applied sunscreen, and we dated like it was our job. It was absolutely wonderful and I can't believe it's already over!
